A tithi in a Hindu schedule is a lunar day. Amavasya (No moon or new moon) happens when the longitudes of the sun and the moon are equivalent. A Thithi is determined when the moon moves 12 degrees eastwards from the sun. This is the main Tithi and is known as Pratipada Thithi during Shukla Paksha or waxing period of moon. At the point when the moon moves 180 degrees it is Purnima or full moon and when the moon moves 360 degrees it is again Amavasya.

Total Length
Since the movements of the sun and the moon are continually shifting in speed, the length of a Tithi continually changes. A few times a tithi can be up to 26 hours and as less as 21 hours 34 minutes and 24 seconds. This implies the time a tithi starts shifts with the overall time continued in a country.
Same Tithi on two days and Two Tithis on one day
Now and again a tithi may start and end around the same time. Subsequently there will be two tithis on a day. For instance – you may see a Tritiya and Chaturthi around the same time
Now and then a tithi may cover into the following day and afterward there will be two same tithis on two continuous days. Let’s take a example for a instance – it will be Tritiya on Sunday and Monday.
Days with two Beginning or End points of tithis and no start or end points of tithis are considered foreboding.
